I'm no dr, but I think blood clots are a risk in any surgery. I also understand that once detected they can be dissolved successfully, without any long term side effects. Sounds like your brother is getting the care he needs. Keep us up to date on how he does. Good luck.

Shepla,

It's an unfortunate but fairly common health risk with any surgery. One of the reasons they want patients up and moving is to prevent clots from forming. Respiratory therapy is always around making sure patients do their deep, in and out breathing. Some patients are simply more prone to such things. I'm sorry ya'll have pneumonia to worry about too :>( Hope he is doing better today. Hang in there.

Thoughts and Prayers,

Swim

Thank you everyone, Swimom, Good to hear from you. I just got off the phone with the I.C.U. Nurse and  my brother is doing much better. He was on Hepron now he is on Lovenox.  Blood thinners. She told me he was having some orange juice and the were taking him off  of some of the IV,s.  When I saw him on Saturday night I thought we might lose him. He is 61  and apparently was in good shape or they said he would not have made it. He does exercise almost everyday. Might be out of ICU tommorrow. I can,t believe it!!  thanks for thwe Incite .I,ll write later Thank you so much!!     SHEPLA
