I was wondering if any of you have had the Eligard 45 harmone therapy shot.  I had it the 7th of June and am scheduled for the second shot Dec. 5th.  It has been a very unpleasant experience.  The Hot Flashes are as bad or worse now as in the beginning.  What are alternative treatments??  I did have cancer in one of the 12 lymph nodes removed..  I am tired, little sexual desire and depressed almost always.  I did start taking Welbutrin and hopefully it will help soon.  Thanks and I wish you all well.

Elgard 45 is a 6 month version of the Lupron shot, which is typically given every three months.

I had the Lupron injections, which I HATED. My behind hurt for days, making it uncomfortable for days, and the hot flashes and unexpected tear bouts were difficult to deal with. They tended to taper off towards the end of the tree months.

There are other hormone treatments, including Casodex, which I am taking. I take two 50mg pills a day. I started with 3 a day, which I took for several years before my urologist cut me back to two. The pills are very tiny, and MUCH better than a shot in the behind. The side effects are far less, also.

You might talk to your doctor about Casodex, although I know that most doctors like to give Lupron for a year or two. Not sure of the resoning, other than it most likely has shown good results. Can't argue with that.

Thanks Hagrid, I appreciate the reply and know after reading all the injection post that it will just take time to work things out. Looks like the The Harmone shots are just unpleasant for all that have to take them. I have also tried the trimix and the last prescribed for me is very painful. Hope it gets better with time like with others. I know the first time I used to much and remembered, from a post, cold showers on the small of the back might help, it did indeed. The second injection was much less, but painful also. I'm trying to get my nerve up for the third injection of the new trimix. Thanks again and I appreciate this site...

I learned to just wait out the HT induced crying spells. They'd pass in about 10 minutes. At first, I let them bother me tremendously. I learned that that only prolonged the misery. Stay positive, that's my motto.

As for trimix injections, didn't like them. I finally opted for implants, and that has worked out very well for me.
