Hello
My husband, 57, was dx 6-20-07, PSA 34, Gleason 4+4, lymph node and bone involvement.
7-10-07 Casodex 50mg for 14 days
7-14-07 Lupron shot
8-27-07 UW Madison Hospital for second opinion
8-30-07 PSA 9
11-1-07 Lupron shot, PSA 212
11-12-07 PSA 198 added Casodex 50mg and Zometa for bones
11-15-07 CT-no organ involvement
11-23-07 admitted to hopital for pain, MRI-no spinal cord compression
11-29-07 PSA 600, Bone Scan-two additional bone sites
11-30-07 hydrocodone-acetaminophen for pain
12-11-07 1st of 12 radiation treatments to mid back, lower back, and both hips
12-11-07 prochlorper 10mg for nausea
12-20-07 oxycodone for pain-8th radiation treatment

The second opinion was the same.  Wanted my husband to participate in a trial, the chemo trial I heard others write about or the intermittent trial.  We choose neither.  I read Dr Snuffy Meyers book and liked the intermittent but there would be no guarantee we would get the intermittent.  As it is turning out he would not have been a good candidate.  Anyone out there with similar circumstances?

John1016,

My heart goes out to you. We will add you to our prayer chain.

I talked with my Radiation Oncologist yesterday after my treatment. We talked about a new treatment for pain. Quadramet Therapy. You may want to talk to your doc about this. It helps reduce the usage of pain meds and relieve pain at the source.

Keep us up to date on how things are going. There are some wonderful people here who will cover you up with good information and love.

Be blessed,

Walt

Hello and welcome,

I'm sorry that I don't have answers for you, I so wish I did. There are many here, though, who speak simply from their own experiences and share what they've learned.
Walt's advice on the pain meds is something to check on.
I, too, am a wife who posts for my husband (somehow, I think it's really for me) you can see his stats in his signature line below.
As your husband's wife you are going through so much also, please feel free to talk on here whenever you want - this is a place you can say whatever you need to.

Thanks for your input. Today is the last of the radiation treatments. Jan 2nd we see the Med Oncologist and get another PSA to see if the radiation and added Casodex is bringing down the PSA.
Right now he is dealing with a lot of pain. Last Thursday the Dr added a fast acting oxycodone to the 12 hour oxycodone. He still has break thru pain. Rad Oncologist says that the radiation keeps working for as long as two weeks after. Hope this reduces or eliminates the pain. I will ask the Dr about ketokonazole and hydrocorizone.
