I have had "flare ups" for three years. As crazy as this sounds, these "flare ups" use to only consist of rotten egg burps here and there (that was very embarrassing and had the potential to clear a whole room), but have increasingly gotten worse. Now when this happens, I have burps, explosive diarrhea and horrible vomiting (I've had twelve episodes since September) that lasts for two days. I was tested in November 2010 (via colonoscopy and endoscopy) to see if the issue could be resolved. I was told by the specialist he had never heard of anyone having my symptoms and he'd see what the tests showed. It was determined that I have a couple of issues going on: Lymphocytic colitis and a hiatal hernia. Also a topic of discussion was celiac's disease. The specialist's nurse was actually the one who told me my results and mentioned that my lab work came back negative for celiac's, but my biopsy was positive. When I saw the specialist, he mentioned the findings but said that I do not have celiac's disease because my labs were negative. I am thinking of getting a second opinion because it just doesn't seem right. Not that I WANT to be diagnosed with celiac's BUT, I can't treat one thing and expect things to get better if Ihave two different things going on. My doc did start me on Asacol, and I've only had one episode since being on it (three weeks) but I'm having a burning sensation in my belly now. So I'm not sure I can continue it or if it's just my body adjusting. I'm new to all of this, so I am
open to input and advice from those who have dealt with these medical issues awhile. =)
I also find it interesting that I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and that it's all linked together (diagnosed 2009). I feel like I'm falling apart at the ripe ol age of 27!
