OK, i have been on this gluten free diet for about 3 weeks....i know, not that long....my symptoms were just chronic diarrhea, and terrible, terrible gas........i can see progress, days i have much better poops, and then there are days, they are horrible again. My question is why are some days better than others? I am eating the same things pretty much.......any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

By the way I am 40 years old

Thanks,

Jodi

I would think that you just need to give it more time. Also you may have more than one intolerance. You may not be able to handle dairy products. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in October 2009 and it wasn't until about 6 months ago that I had to cut out milk and ice cream because it would make me sick. So you may have to eliminate other foods to see if that helps. Sorry you're having so much trouble. I certainly sympathize with you.

Alexsami,

That is such a great question. I have suffered from extreme I.B.D/I.B.S. since I was 3-years old (am 46 now) & I have always ate the same things basically (picky eater) all my life. I could never figure out what made it worse or better since I reacted no matter what. Because of 45-years of living on a toilet 24/7 and pushing so hard for all my life, it caused my colon to just shut down. I had no more muscles to push anything thru & in May this year I had to have an ileostomy.

I have 7-kids & I feel so bad that 3-of them all suffer from i.b.s. I know it worries them since the outcome of my i.b.s wasn't good.

Thank you for your post, sending you smiles & pain-free days.

Loop ileostomy, Pelvic & Bladder Trauma & Dysfunction. Colon tore thru Vaginal Wall & the Colon + Bladder fell out of my body thru the vagina, causing a lot of destruction in my pelvic area in the process. Vaginal Vault Lift w/mesh surgery, 2-bladder lift surgeries w/mesh, 2-rectoceles. 15-total surgeries on various parts of my body over the years...2-more to go upcoming. Make temp. ileostomy permanent removing rectum & large colon, Surgery on other shoulder (had one done in March 2011).

Is there a chance you are getting cross contamination from supplements, meds, colanders, or even kisses? For the first few weeks after my celiac diagnosis and going gluten free I had serious withdrawal - cold sweats, migraines, nausea...perhaps this is a possibility. My doctor and dietitian recommended that I take probiotics for the first few months to help with the healing process.

I agree with Joy that you may have another intolerance. I was strictly GF for five months before I realized I needed to eliminate dairy. Some people also eliminate soy, corn and/or nightshades.

Celiac can seem so daunting and overwhelming at first but it seriously does get better. I have now been GF for six months and it is second nature. I still find social situations difficult, though. Just had my bloodwork done again and my numbers are now negative rather than wayyyyyyy off the charts positive. I know I will be GF for the rest of my life but it is great to know I am healing inside.

Full healing can take anywhere from two to five YEARS according to experts.  Hang in there!  You can do this.

I was negative on both celiac tests, then child tested positive ( yeah its genetic) be very careful on the gluten free diet. Many people "try" the diet too see if it helps, unknowingly consuming gluten and never seeing health improvement.

Foods that appear to be gluten free, the expample i often use is potato chips...no gluten ingredient just potatos and oil. Well foods such as these pick up as much as 300-3000 ppm on average of gluten simply from running on the same line as foods made with gluten. It only takes 50 ppm to keep a celiac sick.

When I went TRULY gluten free I got worse for a while, detox, then saw results within 3 months, 6-9 months i saw Major health improvement and reversal of years of hellish symptoms.

Best wishes.
