I have terrible stomach aches when I eat wheat. I have had a celiac test but it came back negetive. I was wondering if I should start reintroducing wheat into my diet to see if it would help me cope with the intolerance? I was wondering if it helps you or it just leaves you in agony? I need your opinion!!!!

Eating wheat does not give me an immediate stomach ache. The issues I have personally experienced are more along the lines of long duration damage. If I eat enough of something that is made with wheat flour, I will likely have crampy diarrhea or soft stool for the next few days (with no immediate discomfort at the meal where I ate the offending food). I have also experienced joint pain in the days following gluten exposure. I would say that if I ate gluten every day I would experience these side effects every day. Going gluten free relieved me of all of these problems, but it took a good 2 weeks to really see the difference.

Very dangerous ifora coeliac sufferer to eat gluten and other foods associated with it. This is a life long condition and you can not become tolerant to it as coeliac disease is not an intolerance, it is a serious medical condiiton. Please take care and follow your docotr's orders/advice.

Thanks for your replys I am not celiac but when I do eat wheat I don't feel the affects straight away its just a few hours afterwards I start to feel them I was wondering if I had a little bit of gluten a day would help me cope with it more than if I had a little bit now and again and feel the affects. But after a long duration of eating eating it I come over with an even bigger attack and I really suffer.

Hi Holes, can you be tested for wheat intolerance?

Holes. I would advise against that. Although, its a good question, I don't think thats how it works. According to my doctor, the standard celiac blood test only tests positive for about 70% of those with full blown celiac. While those that do not test positive, but still have symptoms of gluten intolerance, can have the same reaction to gluten/wheat as those with celiac. So even small amounts may be just as harmful.

Read labels, steer clear of anything that says "contains: wheat" and don't be afraid to ask in restaurants.

Soy sauce and oats almost always have wheat in them, check cosmetics too. Good luck to you.

No, that's not how it works. Actually, if one has Celiac and keeps eating gluten, they are increasing their risk of developing cancer (especially gastrointestinal lymphoma) and setting themselves up for the development of other autoimmune diseases (autoimmune thyroid disease, Diabetes, etc.).
