I have been on the atkins diet for about three weeks. Three days ago I started getting heart palpitations. So I thought it was from too much protein. I have stayed between 20 and 28 carbs a day. I do drink coffee. my palpatations have not stopped in three days. I do not have any chest pain. I do take hydrocodone once a day for my plantar facyitis.

So I just ate some cereal, and now the palpatations have died down a little, but i feel dizzy and warm.

I had been on this diet before with no problem. I had a stress echo and that came out fine. except for a slightly enlarged right atrium.

I went in for a surgical procedure and they did an ekg, said it was abnormal. this is driving me nuts.

if your ekg was abnormal did you call your DR?

Sometimes palpitations happen for no reason. If they are benign then you should just ignore them (I know, hard to do because they freak you out, but still, they are benign). If the ekg came back with results other than benign early beats, or benign whatever, then you should call your DR.

Coffee can cause palpitations.

Coffee and hydrocodone on an empty stomach can Definitely cause heart palpitations, the dizzy and warm after eat are probably just side effects from your heart racing, like when you run real fast and stop suddenly. In the future i would advise a no-sugar breakfast before medications and coffee and if it persists you should consider giving up the caffeine altogether. I know I'd rather have the hp than give up my beloved java but that's prob. what your dr. is gonna say anyway. Hang in there :)
