My friend's wife's cooking! Its not bread that is hard for me to give up like normally for a person it is. Its home made chicken noodle soup! Ok, and banana bars. And oatmeal raisin cookies. Why did I have to get dx'd with celiac recently sighs.

Couldn't you have those things made with gluten free ingredients? I made some chicken soup today. And there are many gf recipes for other goodies! :)

Yes, there are plenty of good substitutes for the recipes you love. Rice noodles work great in chicken soup (just ask anyone who eats Thai food). Oatmeal raisin cookies? I wonder if you can tolerate the GF Oats that Bob's Red Mill sells. That plus some good GF all-purpose flour would make a great cookie. Get your friend's wife to help you work out some recipes.
