Hello, I'm 22 years old and I've recently started wondering if I may have celiac disease. There's no history of it in my family that I'm aware of. I remember being sick a lot as a kid, my parents often thought I was faking stomach aches to get out of school, because I had them so frequently. I also have/had excruciatingly painful periods ever since I was a kid, it would be hard to get out of bed. I recently had my baby, 3 1/2 months ago, and about a month after having her I started getting these symptoms that continue to worsen. Stomach cramps, sometimes randomly, sometimes after eating. Constipation and diarrhea, it goes back and forth. A lot of weight loss, while I do want to continue to lose weight, I have not been trying to and I'm dropping about 3 pounds a week. Frequent dizziness despite drinking a lot of water. Ie always had thick hair, and it's started thinning, I think it's lost about half it's thickness. I feel exhausted all the time, no matter how much sleep I get. Recently I have trouble waking up. I seem prone to getting infections, I've had a throat infection twice in the past few months. Poor memory, I often start saying something or going to do something and forget what it was. I've also suffered from depression for as long as I can remember.
I have trouble going to the doctor, because of social anxiety, I know I'll probably have to go, but any insight would be appreciated!

Just remembered, I've also been having dental/gum problems but I take good care of my teeth. I always have dark circles, but I always chalked that up to how tired I feel constantly. My joints crack a lot too, ever since I was a child, I shift positions or stand up and my knees/ankles/elbows/back/wrists crack.

Hey Potatoes, congrats on your new baby.

The hair loss is typical following childbirth, it will slow down, I promise.

How's your vitamin D level?

It's hard to say whether celiac disease would be something for you to worry about. I'd suggest getting a regular physical and talking to your DR about your concerns.

Thank you.
Okay, I hope so.

I'm not sure about vitamin D.

I plan on talking to my doctor, it's just frustrating because throughout my life doctors would always assume I just had a stomach flu or something. I have spoken with my current doctor about the stomach cramping/abdominal pain but he hasn't seemed very concerned. I haven't mentioned any other symptoms yet though.

Bowel problems are very hard to diagnose because the gut is an incredibly complicated system. Your complaints are pretty vague and you do not seem to be in great distress. The weight loss is a concern, but your fatigue and hairloss is entirely attributable to having an infant at home.

Are you breastfeeding? This could account for your weightloss too.

I've had the fatigue since I was a child, it's just gotten even worse since having my baby. As a child it was always extremely hard for me to wake up,I was often late for school. And I felt tired all the time. I'm glad I don't have to worry about the hair loss though.
