hello im new here.. celiac g/f 14 years
i just had the cyrex array 4 and my dr. didnt explain it very well anyone know about this test?
it came back levels of milk butyrophilin and whey a little out of range of normal , but milk, caisen , choc milk were normal

how can you be allergic to milk protein but not milk. i asked the dr. and he convaludedly told me i should quit dairy but didnt really explain what this all means.
thanks

You can be allergic to whey and/or casein (which is common for people who have celiac disease because the proteins resemble gluten proteins so your body reacts as such), and not be lactose intolerant at the same time. The milk butyrophilin are the proteins found in milk fat, and since people with Celiacs have issues digesting fats this could be why they found it in your panel as elevated. I hope this helps you out a bit. :-)

You should be completely dairy free, but it's up to you. Have you tried coconut milk in your coffee instead or an almond creamer? They're both wonderful substitutes.
