Hi!

I'm a 23 year old male from Sweden (English is not my native language). I suffer from Coeliac Disease. I was diagnosed when I was about 7 years old and I want to know how you react when you ingest gluten.

I've had one friend in my life who had the same disease (we don't talk anymore).

There's a church sponsored café for students close to where I went to high school. My friend used to eat their cheap chocolate cake every day. I did not. He used to feel 100% ok afterwards. But I met him again, about 6 months ago. He can no longer drink beer or ingest products with gluten-levels so low that they are considered gluten-free. He just vomits and feels like crap. He is now extremely sensitive.
I suspect that he managed to become more sensitive by constantly eating gluten. Possibly boosting his immune response to gluten.

Me personally? When I eat something with gluten, this happens: I become weak, too weak to stand up, I feel tired, I want to sleep, I get heartburn, I feel sick, my stomach hurts, I vomit, I get pains in the area between my navel and scrotum, I feel warm (feverish), I sweat like a plague victim, my joints hurt, and sometimes I get rashes.

What symptoms do you get? Do you have any "fixes" for any of them, once the damage is done?

I get diarrhea about 12 hours later. I don't have celiac disease though, just a gluten intolerance.

If you have celiac disease, eating gluten will damage your gut and I do not believe that damage is reversible. Please do not eat gluten.

This might be a bit graphic, but for those who get diarrhea, is it yellow and greasy and very smelly??

I have Celiac and get similar symptoms to you. I will also get depressed. It's really not worth it to eat gluten-the effects are miserable and after so many years of being gluten-free when I do cheat the food doesn't even taste as good as I remember! I just wish gluten-free food was less expensive!

I had a wide array of symptoms before getting diagnosed. Extreme fatigue, bloating, irregular bowels, anxiety, swollen lymph nodes, violent hiccups... the list goes on like 2 pages typed. After gluten free, so much swelling went down, I was down 30 pounds. I told everyone I didn't have a big belly and skinny legs for nothing. It wasn't right. Now, if I get "glutened" I get anxiety, constipation, bloating - that I notice.

The yellow and greasy and very smelly stool is probably steatorrhea. It shows you have not been absorbing fat.
