Hi all,

This is my first post.  I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 8 years ago.  I was seen quickly by a GI dr because my barium swallow and follow-through showed signs of Crohn's.  The GI dr brushed that off and I didn't think of it again after my gastroscopy showed Celiac.

I have followed a GF diet since then with little dairy and pretty much no fried foods.  Even still, I would get diarrhea sometimes with blood and vomitting every few months for a day or two with stomach cramps and pains.  I always chalked it up to a mistake in my diet even though I have always been so careful.

Now I have had two weeks of bloody diarrhea, severe cramps and pains, alternating constipation with diarrhea, rashes and extreme fatigue.

Is it possible that i could have had Crohn's and Celiac this whole time??  Anyone else have both?  Is it possible that my really strict diet kept Crohn's masked for longer?

Help.

I think you need to get a second opinion. If you are getting glutened, that should show up in the blood work.

Like you, I have both and struggle to get proper treatment.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

I do not have Celiac but Crohn's colitis, and I am very sensitive to gluten. But my problem isn't just with gluten. After closely following a food diary I was able to determine that my symptoms are also aggravated by shellfish, seaweed, and even cruciferous vegetables like kale and broccoli.

Maybe you also have multiple food sensitivities. Everyone is different so you need to find out for yourself. BTW probiotics help to get me back into remission.

I'm the same as IamCurious and also have Crohn's-Colitis. Although all my main symptoms are gone now (mucus, blood, pain, urgency) I still have many foods aside from Gluten that strongly effect me. Certain rices, milk, certain probiotics, some starches (from rice and gluten alternatives) and some yeasts used to make gluten free products.

I takes a while to figure them all out. Everyone is a little different.

Crohn's-Colitis just so you are aware is Crohn's Disease, but isolated to the colon. So no small bowel involvement.

Have you tried the SCD diet? There may be some basic foods you can tolerate on that and see if it helps reduce your symptoms. It's perhaps worth a shot, but very difficult to stick to. At least going through the intro diet might help flush out items that bother you.

Here are two great cookbooks that makes SCD life somewhat tolerable -www.grainfreegourmet.com/buygrainfree.html Some of the recipes my 'normal' relatives now cook. It's that good.
