Hi
I have not been diagnosed with celiacs, but definitely have gluten sensitivity. I cut out both gluten and dairy 10 days ago. I'm definitely having withdrawal issues. The first week was mainly exhaustion, aches and pains, minor irritiability. The last few days I've dropped into a serious depression - crying spells, inability to concentrate, terrible irritability and insomnia. Anyone else have this. I was just reading that gluten and casein affect opiod receptors so withdrawal can be nasty, but I didn't think it would be this bad!

Gluten withdrawal is real. Too bad you did not get a celiac blood test screening to rule out celiac disease. It is not too late to get back on gluten to get tested. Why bother? Adhering to the GF diet is hard, really hard. Without a firm diagnosis, it is easy to cheat.

I had no symptoms other than anemia. Little did I know that I had osteoporosis (until my back fractured doing nothing!), I was malnourished (lab tests confirmed) too. Yet my biopsies revealed severe damage!

What kind of symptoms did you have with withdrawal? I find the depression and irritability getting worse by the day - I'm on day 13. I hope it resolves soon. Thanks for responding

My anemia was severe (hard time catching my breath), so I do not recall any withdrawal symptoms, but it has happened to many celiacs. It should last a few weeks, but healing from celiac disease can take months to years. There are over 200 documented symptoms for celiac disease. Everyone presents differently.
