I've been a long time poster on the breast cancer board, diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999 right before turning 31. Did chemo, rads, tamoxifen...and life is good.
Ever since college, I have been told I had a large thryoid. Blood tests were normal and we assumed this was just my baseline, to have a large thyroid. After 2 years of nagging by my gyno, I went for an ultrasound (labs normal), and we found 2 cysts. Scan indicated a cold nodule. I also had found out that my cousin and her daughter had Hashimoto's, so I saw an endocrinologist and turned out I had it too. No symptoms, just large gland.
Endo wanted to do a FNA just to be sure...well you guessed it, papillary carcinoma.
I had a TT 6/24/08, RAI in August (100 mci) and just had my follow up scan last month. All clear! I developed a problem with my right parotid gland in February, doc thought it was a stone but it is a s/e of the RAI. I post on another board and turns out a lot of people had the identical situation several months after RAI.
I am currently stable on 150 mcg of levoxyl, just got to a normal dose a couple months ago and life is good again.
Welcome to Healingwell, everyone!
