You need to talk to your doctor and see if you can get a referral to see an Endocronologist (thyroid specialist) they will determine if you need a ultrasound, biopsy, etc. Some nodules are ok and some aren't usually they can tell by doing an ultrasound, not sure what they can see on an MRI.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Veronica,

I had over 20 nodules at one time on my thyroid. They were all small though. You should see an endocrinologist. They specialize in thyroid disorders. They will have to do an ultra sound to see how big the nodules are. Most of the time, they are benign and nothing to worry about. You are usually put on thyroid medications to reduce the nodules, if you're not on any yet.

My thyroid can (& does) swell & become quite sore. I have yet to have an ultra sound or MRI for it. Can you feel the nodules? Or are they only seen on an Ultra sound?

There is a huge percentage of the population that has thyroid nodules, most never know they have them. THey are very common, so finding one on a scan may not mean much of anything. There are a lot of things that can contribute to it. Definitely the endo is the one to see, and he/she will likely want to do a needle biopsy to get a tissue sample.

Hang in there...let us know what they find.

Traveler,

Sometimes I can feel mine. It just depends how big they are. Like Tavish said, some people don't even know they have them. The reason I did was because I had symptoms and my thyroid kept swelling. My doctor actually felt them and did an ultra sound right after.

I was told that the only time a needle biopsy was needed was if the nodule was over a certain size.

Veronica,

Are you going to make an appointment with an endo?

Same advice as the others. I have several nodules that were first found on MRI for a back problem a few years ago. I have had them biopsied several times and they are benign, but have gotten larger over time. They will likely only put you on medication if your thyroid studies are abnormal-hyper or hypo thyroid. I was normal (euthyroid) for the first couple years, but now am hyperthyroid and so was started on medication about a month or so ago. Still feeling a little tired, and still have a tremor.

Thyroid nodules are very common and most-95%- are benign. But get it checked out :)

I would definitely see your doctor. My gynecologist found a nodule in my neck. He suggested I get a Thyroid level. It came back normal, but he also wanted an ultrasound on the nodule. I went to a Neck and Head surgeon and he did an needle biopsy of the nodule and it came back questionable for cancer. So they removed the right half of my thyroid and the nodule(which was the size of a tennis ball), there was no cancer on either side. I go back on 7/21 to see what my Thyroid levels are. I feel really good now. It has been three weeks since my surgery. Surgery went well. It did not hurt. Had a really sore throat from instruments, but it was gone the next day. Only took pain meds first day. None after that. I have more energy now.

Hi ...I have had 2 1/2 months of doctors testing me over and over for lymes and fifths disease, keeps coming back negative!!! This past tuesday I noticed a lump on my throat so I went to an ent, he determined that it was a nodule on my thyroid, I am going for an ultrasound this Tuesday so he can have a better look at it..... is it possible that the Anxiety that started 2 1/2 months ago, the joint pain that started 2 months ago along with complete exhaustion every day, is due to this Nodule they found on my Thyroid???

It took three months and a change of doctors to get my diagnosis. My legs swelled, I was blue all the time, nervous, things aches, I was exhausted, and just felt off. My doctor said I had subclinical hypothyroidism.

I also have throid nodules. One of them has doubled in size. I have had them for many years. They were treated with synthroid and shruck. Now one of tham has grown and the other two have stayed the same. I have a biopsy on Aug. 28th along with an ultrasound and lood work. The specialist is away the enture month of August. I see her again on Sept 21. She tells me I may need surgery depending on the biopsy. The nodule has enlarged to 2.9 cm whih is appently quite large.
I am hoping it can be treated with meds.
I find I am extremely overheated most of the time and my energy is not good.
