      All,

I went to endocronologist yesterday and he decided after all his tests results that he would like me to take a Vitamin D 50000IU once a week. No kidding. All those tests and traveling all over... Just one small pill a week. he also assures me that there will be no more tooth loss / degeneration. And thank goodness too.. I know ive only 4 teeth left, but I was sure if i woke up chocking on any more teeth I would loose my noggin. :-) Small blessing in little packages :-)

This is a good reminder for all of us! Recent studies have shown that the majority of people who live north of Miami are low in vitamin D. My doctor started me on a supplement over a year ago. So if anyone hasn't had a vitamin D blood level done recently, think about asking for one.

Glad you got an answer, Dani, and that it was such an easy one!

My D level is low as well. I am told it is due to lyme disease. I also take suppliments.

I too have low Vit D, here in the land of Sunshine. Who'd a thunk it?

I take 5000 IU of D3 daily.

scool

Hehe, I get lots of sun. I live in the desert. Also cook everything by hand. And I "thought" I was very healthy except for the spine issues. *shruggs* So I was very confused when he said I needed vitamin D for my calcium absorption. Sure does seem like alot..esp now.  But! Ive had no more "crumbling" of teeth, etc. Since last week. Just fractures. Hopefully, even that will stopp to by this week or next. Or alteast I hope so. The cost to repair the damage is mind blowing proportions. I had a thought other day I should take pictures, copy xrays, show my little journey to recovery. My husband said he would help me to do it. !!Getting off track!!

I know what you mean about plenty of sun! I was a little taken back myself.

I am amazed at all of this. I have been fatigued for 2+ years now and have gained at least 20 lbs. I dislike the way I look,  sooo finally went to the Dr. and she ran all kinds of blood work, all came back perfect. For a gal 62 to have perfect blood work is amazing, BUT I am still so tired all the time, plus other symptoms.

I am going to see an endocrinologist tomorrow for enlargement of thyroid gland, thyroid blood work came back perfect, but why is it enlarging.

I am going to bring up the vit D info found on this site and see what he says. Wouldn't that be something, a siimple pill. Gosh hope the 20lbs feel the same way and goes away.

I live in Southern Oregon now and we have a lack of sunshine 5 months out of 12. Grew up in So. Cal where the sun never goes away.  Spent 57 years there and never was tired, on the run constantly.

I take 200,000 IUs of vitamin D weekly...yes, not a typo. It's prescription strength, 50,000 units, I take 4, once a week. It has taken two years, but finally, as of today, my D is at a normal level. My doctor has been raising the amount I take every 3 months. Three months ago, my D level was at 27. Now, taking the 200,000 units, my D level is at 43.9 which she says is "perfect".

If only I could get my thyroid to normalize...I will post this in another thread.
take care

     Dear Miriam,

Good afternoon. *huggs* It is good to see you again. I do hope you are feeling a little bit better.  I for one am being kinda lazy... or tryin to at any rate. smilewinkgrin

It is nice that I am not alone. You must have awful degeneration? I have spent a grotesque amount of money in attempts to repair the damage over the last 3yrs. You must be the same? :-)   It is nice to know I am not alone.  My absorption rate is EXTREMLY low, which is why the endocronologist asked that I begin taking his little pill once a week. Also asked for more blood.. Neither request bother me in the slightest. Very small in the grande scheme of things.

It was a pleasure to see you again. Catch up with you later :-)

Hi Dani,
Pleasure to meet you. Not sure what you mean by "degeneration"? I do have some disk problems, especially at L5/S1, but no one every associated that with low D. I've had two bone densities and both were well within normal.

Thank you for your welcome. I am new to this forum, but not new to Healing Well. I have fibromyalgia and have been with that forum for a while now.

Take good care,
Miriam

I have a question. Is there a link between thyroid disease and low Vitamin D?? Thanks!

50,000 units of vit D here, once a week for 3 months when they will test again to check levels.

I had complained of extreme fatigue and joint pain since I was diagnosed with UC and hypothyroidism back in August of 2008. My primary care finally referred me to a specialist in auto-immune disorders and she's the one who test for vitamin D levels.

This is only week 3 of my "D" so its probably a bit soon to tell how effective it has been.

   Dear ShutterBug,

Good morning. My name is dani and it is very nice to meet you. :-)

I too am on the same course of action. I did have... weird "under muscle ache" but on a scale of 1 to 10 iit was a 2. Not that im a tuff cookie mind you. Im a chicken throu and throu. But,  I already have spine issues that are rather painful, which is probably why it went uncheck for so long. I wonder what kind of imrpovements, you know over all, will happen in three months. My three month is october..? Ill try to remember to come back to this thread for an update. You should try to remember too.  :-)

I was sent to an endocronologist. He has alot of other "specialities" next to his name. And does alot of thyroid related blood tests alot. Each one of those keeps comming back a little low or high or whatever. All over the place. WHich is fine, not that I like needles.. Just they are taking it anyway, so whats another vial? Besides, for one small pill a week? I donno bout you, but that is a stroll in the park for me.... He can have all the blood he wants  :-)

Ive been taking the Vitamin for a while now, and the "crumbling" of teeth stopped right away.. first few weeks. Then just hard fractures for a couple of weeks. And nothing, no increase in area of stinging in the back, and no more fractures in the mouth this entire last week.  This could be a good sign. I am very hopeful. Though neither area will be X Rayed / treated for 2 weeks.

And Ive probably chatted your eyes off! Im sorry, I ramble sometimes. In any case, it was very nice to meet you. I normally haunt the chronic pain section :-)   Stop by sometime. You would probably like the folks over there too
