It depends on what caused the thyriod condition, but I would not be playing with med doses without a doctors supervison.

Are you on Zoloft for depression? Low thyroid levels may cause depression, what is your TSH  and what dosage of meds are you taking?

I think the answer is yes. Unless you have a nodule that is causing the problem or a primary pituitary gland problem, then you'll be on thyroid medication for the rest of your life. Fortunately, the meds aren't terrible as far as side effects are concerned and have been around for a long time so physicians are very familiar with them.

I just started thyriod meds today. I also have to take Nexuim twice a day (SEVERE, SEVERE, SEVERE GERD). It's very hard to figure my dosing schedule when I have to wait 1 hour to eat then wait 3 more hours to take my Nexuim. I'm burning up!!! I'm going to try nexuim first then wait 4 hours for the Thyroid meds my stomach should be empty by then (you think?).
Any ideas? Is 11 o'clock in the morning too late to take it?

I take my Synthyroid, wait only 30 minutes, then take other meds and eat breakfast at the same time. Fortunately, I do not take Nexium so I do not know how that will affect anything. Seems to me that the extra one hour wait after thyroid is a problem for you. Try to get this dosing clarified by your doc. A phone call should work.

My pharmacist said I could take my Nexium first, eat, then wait 4 hours for the thyroid med. He said the Nexium slows the absorbing of the thyroid med. I also have to be careful not to have any tums within 4 hours of the thyroid med. I tried doing that method today. Seemed OK, but started feeling blue close to time to take the thyroid meds. Weird, huh?
Did anybody who started on their meds feel a difference on day one? Yesterday was my first pill and by late yesterday evening I was feeling "peppy". I was singing with the radio and dancing. I hadn't felt like that in a LONG TIME. I've felt energetic today and even played with my nephews and niece who were visiting. Normally I sit and watch them and keep them from killing each other, begging for the time to come for them to go home. THEY WEAR ME OUT!

Couchtater

to answer your question, yes, I felt better on day two. But went back to my hypo self on 3rd day but on 5th day I essentially "woke up." I could feel the change. It has leveled off. I am on the 11th day and still feel fine. I am praying that my feet stop hurting.

The time of taking the synthroid is driving me batty!! I have tried morning, night and in middle of night.
Get this: I got up to take it at 1 am this morn and took it, and sat in front of computer for 15 mins. My druggist said do not lay down after you take it for 45 mins!!

So i went back to bed and this morn I got up and there was my pill in the kitchen. So i took it. Then I remembered I had taken one out of the bottle at 1 am. So i had two pills 6 hours apart. Boy. but no side effects so far.

I love coffee 1st thing in the morning so i don't like to wait 30 mins in the morning to have coffee.

so taking Syn at 11:30 pm will work best for me. I just have to be sure I don't eat after 6:30 pm  or 7 so my stomach is empty. no more night time snacking I guess.

I assume if you have a thyroid condition, it does not get better by itself. The meds are necessary and it is a life long thing. You don't want to be going off and on. That could make you much worse.

Well, I've been on synthoid for a month now and I feel so different. I no longer feel blue and down. The only thing different is I seem to be more emotional. I was watching an emotional movie the other night that I had seen many times before and for the first time I cried during it. It's so weird.

HELLO!

Has anyone ever mentioned iodine to any of you? The thyroid needs iodine to function correctly.

It has been on the news that most everyone is lacking in iodine causing complications of the thyroid.

Salt comes iodized, however, that's when you buy it in the grocery store. Commercial foods do not use iodized salt & we are all big eaters of commercially prepared foods.

Think about it, research it, it's your life, take control of it along with your doctor.

BEST OF LUCK! yeah

I'm not lacking iodine. I have been fine for years and suddenly one day my thyroid stopped working right. My doctor told me my brain is not using the thyroid hormones properly.
