I was just started on Cytomel for a possible T3 deficiency.  I am hoping this is it.  I have been sick since Jan and would love insight, wisdom, and information on all aspects of thyroid issues.  I am so glad I found this site.

Hello, I'm Joy. I'm still kinda new here. I've had hypothyroidism for about 6 months. Been on medication for 3 months. Doctor over-medicated me so now I have to reduced the dosage.
I'll be discussing with my doctor on Monday what is next to come.

I bought the book "Thyroids for Dummies" because I was a dummy about it and it helped me with some answers. You can ask and I can search if you want to muddle through together.

It's sad to say this is not a very active forum, it's still new and others are slow to come in. However, I still visit it everyday.

Nice to meet you.

Thanks Joy for the post. What kind of food allergies do you have. I have been fighting a multitude of allergies. Do you feel better on the thyroid med?

Cozynana, I find it interesting that you've been put on a T-3 replacement. Most of us are either on T-4 replacement or biological thyroid preparations. My understanding is that Cytomel takes effect more quickly than Levothyroxine, but is also more prone to fluctuations in blood levels.

I hope you're soon feeling much better.

Cantalope and any shellfish.
I was feeling good with the synthoid, but like I said he overdosed me and now I have to stepped down from the high dose. The overdose feels just like I felt before the medication: waves of blue, being cold and hot quickly.

Forum Mod, yes, most are on something else. I am on 5mcg's and don't know it is right. I have never been on thyroid meds and think it may be off. I have only been on it 4 days, but have weird feelings about 2-4 hours after I take it and then again in the mid-afternoon.
The doctor that prescribed it is a GP. I am trying to get an appointment with a endochrinologist for a second opinion and see if the type and dose are correct. I may have to call the initial doctor and see if I should be having these symptoms, but to be fair I have all sorts of weird symptoms since my sickness started in Jan progressively worse from April on. Just sick and tired of being sick and tired. Funny thing, I amost always feel better in the late afternoon-evening. I try to stay up later to enjoy the break for the ick.

I always like to know about the meds I take too. This is a good site with information in English rather than medicalese:

I think seeing an endocrinologist is a good idea, at least until you have a firm diagnosis and are stable on treatment. I saw one for the first couple of years, now my PCP monitors me. (Actually I saw two endos; I fired the first one because he accused me of not taking my meds every time I wasn't responding to a dosage change the way he thought I should.)

That stinks, Judy!
Sometimes we come across a doctor with the god complex who think they can't do wrong.

My PCP I had been seeing for 9 years wouldn't listen to me about feeling "off" and my legs swelling. He just gave me lasix. I decided I needed a second opinion about my legs still swelling and feeling "off". The new doctor ran a full panel and told me I had Hypo which was making my legs swell. He started me on synthoid, two lasix, and potassium.
I've hadn't been back to my old doctor for six months.
