My 30 year old daughter had her thyroid completely removed about two months ago. Her surgeon said the cancer had not spread and was contained within the removed thyroid.
Yesterday she went to her doctor for a checkup on her thyroid medication. While she was ther he mentioned there was some fairly new test that checkes for a chemical in the thyroid. If that chemical is present, she is at a greater risk for a recurrence of cancer. He order a test on her removed thyroid to check for the chemical.
This just doesn't make sense. I wasn't there, so I don't know any of the details.
Has anyone heard of this before?
