Hi guys. I am Mary and I am new to this forum but not to Healingwell. I usually post in Ostomies and had my Colon removed 3 weeks ago for Colonic Inertia. Now that one issue is fixed(hopefully), I need to concentrate on my Thyroid again. I have been Hypothyroid for about 8 years(diagnosed). My levels constantly fluctuate. My T4 is always too low and my TSH is always high. I have had a few times where my TSH was over 100. Obviously that isn't good and I still deal with being tired as my major complaint. The symptoms don't seem to disappear even when my levels are "normal". As a matter of fact, I don't feel good unless my levels are considered to be"hyperthyroid". I am currently on 112 MCG of Levothyroxine. I have been reading about Dessicated Thyroid and have been considering trying it out. I currently just see a PCP, do you think I need to see an Endocrinologist? Has anyone taken any homeopathic medications for your thyroid, supplemental to Synthroid? Thanks you!

ETA:Does anyone else have hands that tingle and are numb? I get dizzy a lot too and my vision goes black, is this Thyroid related?

Welcome to the thyroid forum, Mary. With fluctuating levels despite medical treatment, I'd suggest you see a good endocrinologist to help sort things out. I'm sorry, I can't comment on the relative effectiveness of dessicated thyroid, as I've been successfully managed on levothyroxine since my radioactive iodine thyroid ablation.

Tingling of the fingers can be related to hypothyroidism, but when you're having dizziness and syncope at the same time it sounds more like a circulatory or hyperventilation issue. If your endocrinologist eliminates the thyroid as a cause, you can then proceed with further diagnosis.

Good luck, and hope you feel much better soon.

I have to have a referral and am in the process of trying to find a new PCP. Do all Endo's require a referral? I know it isn't my insurance.

Hi TckledPinkTwice,

I don't know anything about dessicated thyroid, but I'm on compounded thyroid for Hashimoto's and compounded adrenal cortisol for adrenal fatigue.  Both come from a reputable compounding pharmacy and require a prescription.  Not sure if your endo or PCP would consider using that, but it's more natural than something like Synthroid, which I used to take.
