Wondering if anyone has heard of iodine plus tabs and if it helps hypothyroid problems?

this DR. from the womens health clinic in sugar land TX. claims that this will get your thyroid working and probably you will lower if not get off completely your thyroid meds.   just wondering if anyone has tried them ???? Im wanting to try them but dont want to waste my money if its just hype.

any help would be grately appreciated.

Has anyone checked your serum iodine level? Iodine will help if your thyroid issues are related to an iodine deficiency in your diet, otherwise no. With almost everyone in this country using either sea salt or iodized salt, iodine deficiency is very uncommon. Even before iodized salt, it would have been uncommon in people as close to the ocean as you live, because of their intake of seafood and sea salt.

An interesting link on the subject of iodine:

http://www.iodine4health.com/ortho/brownstein_ortho.htm

My new MD has just started me on T3 skin cream in addition to levothyroxine, but am getting  hyper symptoms even at a low dose.

I'm going to run the iodine issue by her when I see her in 4 weeks.

thanks for the website korissa, that was interesting. I found another place to purchase iodine drops and they are from all organic sources with great reviews. im on my 3rd day of use now and i can already feel a little more energy. so ill keep you posted.  The product is called Detoxadine  (Nascent Atomic Iodine)  it is from GHC or Global Healing Center

www.globalhealingcenter.com they were very fast and efficient in sending out my order. Unlike the other place i mentioned in earlier post....they never got back with me.   please keep us posted as to what your DR. says.

Can anyone advise if taking iodine medications have any impact on hair loss due to thyroid disorders?

Judy 2

Im getting more blood tests run tomorrow so i will ask for that to be checked. thank you.     I will say that i stopped taking iodine and all my supplements several weeks ago in an effort to make my blood tests as true as possible.  I will be going back on all my supplements right after they draw my blood though because i now know that all i was taking really was helping!   courtney fox1 ive read that hair loss is a problem with thyroid problems but weather hair will come back with iodine use or if it will just stabilise you i dont know. the web-site i posted is informative and they will talk with you if you call them....so maby do that.

Many multivatimins have the full RDA of iodine; this is one instance where the full RDA is ample. Another reason why iodine deficiency isn't so common.

is an excessive intake of iodine dangerous in terms of hair loss, i.e. if i take the supplements and increase my iron intake in my diet?

I would encourage all to read this article from the Linus Pauling institute, particularly the sections on iodine toxicity, before starting to take iodine supplements:

Judy 2 thanks for the info. it was very informitive.  I was a kid who was raised to not salt anything and try to enjoy food for its natural flavor so i didnt benifit from iodized salt. I will do more reading on this.  I appreciate you finding and posting this for us. Im having trouble with different symtoms of hypothyroidism and im desperate to try and help it naturally if its safe, because im also about to start RA meds and im scared of taking pharmaceuticals.
