I have been taking Lexapro 10 mg for nearly 5 years and most of the time my physician has provided it for me due to the cost. Now with Medicare Rx I have recently been having to buyi with a prescription due to Forest Labs have stopped providing it to my Dr. Does anyone know when the generic of Lexapro will be released in 2012? I would like to know as I have an RX deductible to meet and that is going to hurt terribly financially. This med has been a life saver to me, and I mean a life saver. So  I need to start saving what I can in order to get the Brand until the generic is released. Thank you

I'm sorry I cannot help you but might have a possible suggestion. Have you tried wal-mart. They have lots of medications that cost only $4. Cosco also sells medications at a much less expensive price than the normal pharmacies. Or, maybe the makers of Lexapro. I know some companies have assistance programs for their meds.

hope some of these suggestions help.

Sorry, looked up walmart and they do not have lexapro as a $4 prescription. I did look on line to see what was available and here are some of the sites I came across:

www.rxassist.org

www.rxaccess4u.com

www.rxhope.com

I hope one of these or something similar can be of help to you.

From what I've seen the patent for Lexapro expires in March of 2012, so hopefully there will be a generic form to follow soon after. I do not have health insurance, so I get my lexapro through the forest pharmaceuticals patient assistance program. I get a free there month supply and can apply as many times as I like, but have to reapply every three months. It costs me nothing to get the lexapro, just the fee for the doctor appt. to have a presciption written out to attach to the application and the doctor has to fill out a part of the application too. At first, my doctor also gave me free samples of lexapro, but they stopped receiving them. I'm assuming you do have health insurance? If you do, then you can't qualify for the assistance program.

My Dr. agreed to help me with Forest Pharmaceuticals Patient Assistance Program for my Lexapro Rx a while ago, but I put it off due to the fact I was, at that time, receiving samples from said Dr.'s office. Like others have mentioned, my Dr.'s office stopped receiving samples to give out to patients as well. Recently, when I went onto Lexapro's official web site, I could no longer find ANY information on the patient assistance program as I had upon past visits. This was kind of distressing to me seeing as I do not currently have health insurance & unfortunately I did not tolerate the generic Celexa well when I tried it.
@ ayeagley--How long have you been on the program, if I may ask? This gives me some hope; at least I now know it still exists!
Thanks!!

I just found this site specifically devoted to the PAP. www.forestpharm.com/pap/

Hope this works for you (and for me!) at least until the generics show up. The patent ends in March, so it shouldn't be long.
