Are you taking any thyroid supplement? You need to start by seeing your doctor to have your thyroid levels checked; if they are low he may start you on levothyroxine, dessicated thyroid or something similar to get the levels back where they are needed. Most of the weight gain from being hypothyroid is water and easily lost, but also consider that as the year pass and we get older everyone is more likely to gain weight.
If your thyroid levels are normal, I'm afraid you'll be stuck with diet and exercise. Not fun, but that's how it is for all of us.
