I was told that Hashimoto's causes hypothyroid and hyperthyroid. I was just wondering what some of your experiences are with this and how often this occurs, i.e. daily? hourly? weekly? Also, how severe are the symptoms of each?

I am told I have Hashi's and am currently not on any kind of thyroid medicine because I'm waiting to take a thyroid scan with uptake. I have been off levothyroxine for nearly 30 days now, although I was taken off after only several weeks of being on it after my diagnosis of hypothyroid. Overall, I am feeling better than I did initially. This may be in part due to the fact that I am on the correct dose of progesterone and taking B12.

I seem to have some days where I feel pretty good and other days where I get extremely tired and weak. I have also had a problem with my blood sugar crashing for seemingly no reason. Sometimes I feel fine in the morning, only to try and go for a walk in the afternoon and not make it down the block.

Has anyone else experienced such ups and downs? I'm assuming this will all go away once I get back on the levothyroxine, but I'm curious to see if this is typical symptoms of Hashi's.

UPs downs, yes. Both hypo and hyper yes. Often is variable. Who told you had Hashimotos? You need a endo doctor who overseas your care and medication.

My GP says my thyroid scan with uptake showed a normal thyroid. The thyroid ultrasound and my TSH level indicates hypothyroid and Hashimotos. I started back on the Levothyroxine after a month of being off and feeling totally miserable.

The doctor suggested I go on a gluten-free diet to see if that will reduce the inflammation in the thyroid. She wanted to test for all kinds of things like Celiac, Lyme, allergies, but I refused the test because I have no symptoms of any of those diseases. I said I would try a gluten-fee diet, but I really hate to put myself through that for no reason.

I've been trying to do some research on gluten and Hashi's, but the only thing so far I've read said after six months of gluten-free, her antibodies were higher!

Anybody have any info or experience they can share with regard to gluten and Hashi's?
