Hi everyone. Apologies if this is a rant or redundant or even irrelevant but I can't sleep a wink tonight.

Tomorrow, at my request, I will be getting a thyroid hormone level test. This will be the first step in my attempt at linking Ulcerative Colitis and hyperthyroid activity within myself. I have always had mild symptoms of hyper but never linked the two together until now. I don't want to go down the multiple road but if I am to be classified in this 25% of multiples I'm certainly going to TRY and figure out if its genetic, infectious, immunologic and/or psychological. My son is 14 and he shows no symptoms of either so far, thank you Jesus. This is an effect so therefore a cause must exist. I guess I'm going to have to find that chicken and ask him if he came first or the egg..

Nervously watching myself fall apart. Peace and love ya'll.

Welcome to the forum, ucwarrior. There are quite a few of us here who have thyroid disease - either Grave's or Hashimoto's - and IBD or other autoimmune diseases. It is well established that anyone who has one autoimmune disease has a significantly increased risk for others.

While there is believed to be a genetic component to this group of diseases, the majority of people have no relatives who are affected, and specific genetic markers haven't been found for most of them. Most likely it's a combination of factors - genetic proclivity may be the root, with environmental factors providing the "triggers" that actually cause the disease to occur.

Good luck with your search, and let us know what you learn.

Thank you. Very wise words Judy2 and I listen very intently to wisdom. I'm drained today from all the thinking, being a pincushion this morning, and trying to trudge thru the workday. I get my results back Monday morn. If my hyperT tests come up balanced I'm going after my adrenals. Going fishing tonight with the guys to relax with a line in the water and escape all this whirlwind of science. Again, thank you for the invite to this forum.

Peace and Love.
