Welcome to HealingWell, Dave. Thyroid eye disease is an auto-immune disorder that can occur with or without other thyroid symptoms. The symptoms can include pain, dryness or itching in the eyes, swelling around the eye which causes it to be pushed forward and can make the personappear to have a bulging eyes, bloodshot eyes, double vision or vision impairment.
Left untreated, TED can cause permanent vision impairment, so it's important to have an early diagnosis and treatment. In order to get that diagnosis, you really need to see a good opthalmologist as soon as possible, get a full exam and start on any treatment that may be needed.
Good luck to you, and please do let us know how things work out.
