I am a 50 year old woman .I was diagnosed April 2008 with Graves disease after losing 30 pounds in 3 months, severe trembling so bad I could barely write, couldnt sleep, absolutely NO appetite, fast heart rate- up to 177 bpm. Finally a doctor did blood work  and Thyroid scan. Found to have severe Graves disease. I took Propranolol and Polythrucil (sp). Thyroid levels danced around quite abit but finally quieted down. I gained the weight back plus some.  Everything has been going ok iuntil about 2 months ago. The company I worked at for almost 16 years was bought out and alot has changed. I am having anxiety attacks, cannot sleep, I wake at least 2 times per night, feel anxious, irritable. I am not eating alot but am eating the wrong things. I seem to crave sweets?  My eyes are puffy and I look really tired all the time. I even have a lady I see regularly that tells me she can tell i've had a bad week by the way my eyes look. My feet feel cold at night.  Icant deal with the anxiety it is absolutely draining and the sleepless nights seem to make the anxiety worse. I am working at the same place even thought it is by different owners. I want to feel better. I am taking Methimazole 10mg at night. Could I be HYPO now? sad I have an appointment with a kinesiologist tomorrow who does wonders. smilewinkgrin

Queenie, the problem with thyroid disorders is that the symptoms are usually pretty non-specific and could stem from a number of conditions. Your symptoms (anxiety, sleeplessness, irritability) definitely would point more to hyperthyroidism than hypo, but the best way to know for sure is to see your doctor and have the blood tests done. All of those symptoms could also be caused by anxiety as well as any number of other conditions. Start with the blood test, and a simple medication adjustment could be all that is needed.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing!
