I HAVE MANY OF THE SYMPTOMS OF THYROID DISEASE. EVERYTIME I GO TO THE DOCTOR SHE SAYS MY READINGS ARE NORMAL. THE LAST TSH TEST WAS 0.58 SHE DID NOT DO A T4 TEST. DO YOU THINK I SHOULD BE TREATED FOR THYROID DISEASE AS THE TSH TEST, I THOUGHT WAS A LITTLE LOW. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION.

Hello,
Every one is different, some feel the best with TSH around 1,
but, from my experience, I think that you are hypER thyroid and should be treated for that, I suggest that you ask your doctor to order the following antibodies tests, TSI, TPOab and anti TGab, the last two are for hashimoto and the first one is for graves desease, if she rejects your request, insist or find another doctor, I feel my best with a TSH of between 2-3 , with such a low TSH I'll be a little hypER.

Hope that helps,
good luck,
S

That's a normal TSH, treating for hyperthyroidism isn't warranted.

Your dr has to base things on your history and symptoms but frankly, IMO anyone who has a history of thyroid disorder should get a full panel each time, not just TSH.

Hi Kathy,

I was just curious what symptoms you are having that cause you to think you have
thyroid disease. Could there be something else going on?

Hi Kathy,

You really are having hyperthyroid symptoms. Have you noticed any heart palpitations?
Your TSH is theoretically in the normal range but it is very low normal so I would ask
for the the free T4, free T3 and thyroid antibody tests along with another TSH. Here is
an article about diagnosing thyroid disease and a link to more information about
hyperthyroidism and Graves disease.

If your doctor isn't willing to treat you, you might consider asking for a referral to an
endocrinologist or find another doctor. Mary Shomon has a great series of articles
about finding a good thyroid doctor

http://thyroid.about.com/od/findlearnfromdoctors/Find_Top_Thyroid_Doctors_Learning_From_and_Dealing_With_Doctors.htm

and here is her list of recommended thyroid doctors by state:

Hope this helps. Definitely keep pushing until you get the proper diagnosis and treatment.
