I was recently diagnosed with hashimoto's disease; antibodies present (360) and TSH of 5.89.

I started medication 6 weeks ago and my TSH is now 2.5.  In January, after a year of being sick and going through lots of tests I was diagnosed with gastroparesis.  My stomach issues have greatly improved now that I'm treating my Hashimoto's.  I still have to be careful of what I eat but I can get some solids now and I am no longer losing weight.

I am writing because the symptom that is bothering me most is being light headed.  I had this back in the winter but after about 4 weeks it went away.  For the last two weeks I have been light headed, can't concentrate and I'm very tired.  My pulse has been between 50-60 and my blood pressure has been unstable.  In the past it was always below 120/80 now it's gone up to 150/90 then back down to 113/77.

I feel the light headness is associated with the Hashimoto's but I'm not sure and now that my TSH is in the normal range I'm not sure the Endo will change my medication.  I did see my GP last who did some blood work which was normal and an ultra-sound of the thyroid which showed some nodules but they are not significant.  I’m waiting for results of an echocardiogram but I also think that will be normal.

I am having a very difficult time working when I feel like this and last time I took off on my bad days but I don't have much time left to take off.

Any suggestions or input from others would be greatly appreciated.

Robin

Hello,
When was the test that showed 5.89 done ?
What dose and medication brand are you using?
In general, with hashimoto, you will need to adjust the dose several times, since the TSH will rise again after responding to the current dose, and that indicate the need to increase the dose, since your anti-bodies will continue to destroy your gland .
I started with TSH of 11.4, was put on 350 mcg per week and five years after I am still adjusting the dose and reached 900 mcg/week.

In general it takes six weeks for the TSH to respond to the new dose and reach steady state, but, it might take longer to see the TSH rising again, every one is different, for me it takes more than three months.

Good luck,
S

Hi Robin,

What thyroid medication are you on? Are you taking anything else that could be
affecting your blood pressure?
