i have hypothryoid - i was on synthroid 37.5 once a day - then my doc increased it to 50 mg a day about 3 weeks ago.

now i am sweating at night, faster pulse and this feeling in my throat that is driving me nuts.  super dry and i do have allergies so i'm not sure but it feels like i have to clear my throat all the time.  it's like i focus on it and it's driving me crazy.  is my thyroid off now and too high, meaning hyper?  ughhh  in june, my tsh was like 4.0   but i think that's where i'm comfortable.  this throat feeling is drivng me mad - it's ruining my days.

anyone knoww hat i mean?

Hi hazelnut,

It sounds like you might be taking too much synthroid now. Those are all symptoms of
being hyperthyroid. I would definitely talk to your doctor and cut back to what you were
taking. There is so much controversy with the tsh lab test. I really think if you felt
good at that level, that is definitely where you should be. I really wish doctors would
treat for symptoms rather than labs. I have heard that some thyroid doctors do that,
but I haven't been lucky enough to find one yet. Let us know how you are feeling.

i got my tsh test back and it said it was 5.43 now. hypo. i'm so confused. why would it to more hypo when i was taking more synthroid and feeling hyper? i also have hashimoto's. my doc increased my synthroid to 88 mg. he called at 5 on friday and left me a message like i was some idiot who didn't understand my own disease or my own body. ugh i wish i would hve caught his call. i'm sure he won't have time on monday to call me back.
i'm not increasing my synthroid. i was on prednisone and got a steroid shot a few weeks ago - i read that can affect your absorption of synthroid. i'm sure my doc will say no. i like him but not when it comes to my thyroid.

I hope you start feeling better soon, maybe you should see a different doctor?

Hi Hazelnut,

I think if I were in your shoes, I would cut back to 37.5 mg. Did you feel okay on that
dose? From everything I have read, I'm coming to the conclusion that it is more
important to dose by symptoms rather than the TSH test. That's what they used
to do. Also, the Hashimoto's can be causing all sorts of fluctuations. Let us know what
you decide to do. I have to agree with Grandmarose, if your doctor insists on increasing

your dosage and you are already having hyper symptoms, I think I would consider

changing doctors.
