A couple months ago I went to my routine GI appt and he noticed that my thyroid was enlarged and it seemed fluid filled. He did some blood work and told me to see my primary. I seen my primary and she said my levels were fine, palpated my thyroid and said it looks good.

Since then, I've had a bad fatigue hit me, I seem more depressed, I'm gaining weight (I exercise and don't eat excessively), I've been waking up sometimes gasping for air and my throat feels sort of heavy.

So today I went to my new primary doc for unrelated reason but I started discussing these issues. She drew more blood, said my thyroid is still enlarged and I'm going in for an ultrasound next week.

I seem to be showing the classic symptoms of Hashimotos or a goiter. Is it possible to have normal thyroid levels but the thyroid doesn't work right for whatever reason? I guess I'm a bit confused lol

Hi,
Just falling within the reference range is not enough, you might be high(or low) in the range and that can be considered as a not normal result, the range for TSH also was changed by the AACE about 10 years ago and the recommended range is 0.3-3.0 .

So we need to see your results combined with the reference range to judge .
