I was diagnosed with hashimoto's hypothyroid in 2012, was on synthroid from Feb 2013 to Oct 2013. With my naturopath and GP, decided to try ERFA Thyroid (dessicated thyroid) b/c my T4 was not converting to T3 on the synthroid and I was having lots of days of crippling fatigue, nausea and cold/chills. Got a lot worse on the ERFA, now back on synthroid since a week ago.

I'm just so stressed because I'm not feeling any better, if anything it is getting harder and harder to stay awake each day. The only thing I can think of doing is sleeping. To do anything other than watch tv or be on the computer is too much. My anxiety has skyrocketed and a I feel like I am getting depressed again. My chronic migraine has flared badly. I just can't take it anymore! '

What if it is actually not the thyroid that is causing these, and I have some kind of other serious illness? I know that is not rational, I am just so scared of being so sick. Christmas is my favourite time of year, and I here am not able to enjoy it.

I'm sorry for the rant, had to get it out. Any words of wisdom and support would be much appreciated - I know you can't solve my problems but sometimes I feel so alone.

I can only suggest you see your doctor. If you haven't seen a good endocrinologist who is experienced with Hashi's, you should do that. It can sometimes be difficult to manage.

Hi,

Do you have your most recent thyroid related blood tests? if so, please post them here with reference range so that we can help you better.

In general, with hashimoto, it is not enough to take levo, you need to adjust the dose properly for you.

The numbers are:
TSH 2.82
T3 5.4
T4 11

this was from october when I had been on dessicated thyroid for 3 weeks.

Hi,
Three weeks is not enough time, it can take from six weeks to three months to see the true effect of the medication, however, I can guess that in another month your TSH will get lower, and you become hypER, and maybe this is why you felt anxious and depressed.

Since you have been on Synthroid for only one week, I suggest repeating the test in five weeks and evaluate based on the results.

Good luck,

thanks for your comments, guys. Went to urgent care today b/c I got much worse last night, couldn't get warm, felt like I going to pass out. They wouldn't test a full thyroid panel, so I only got my TSH back at 2.29. But no other serious things showed up in CBC, etc. Still feel so unwell I can't get out of bed. My naturopath suggested I take the ERFA thyroid along with synthroid this weekend, take a full panel lab on monday and figure something out with her early next week. Here's hoping I can start to feel better soon!

Hi,
You need to be patient.
I don't remember all of the details in your thread, I just want to insist that with thyroid, you need to find the proper dose of Levo, and be on it for three months to start feel it's effect, so I suggest that you take the Synthroid for six weeks to three months and respond according to blood work.

Good luck,

Nope more then likely it is the thyroid&I say that because we dealing with the same thing, and it do get scary when the what ifs come into your head there are days I have to force myself out the bed&Iam like what is wrong&going on it is not cool Thyroid problems can bring sickness that make you feel helpless because the thyroid control so much. All we can do until they learn why with research,is keep on pushing through the tiredness&in my case pain in the throat. Best of luck to you&I hope you feel better soon and find any answers that yiu maybe looking for, just know that you are not alone at all and it will get better we must have faith.

So I have been to my doctors and had lab tests done this week. My thyroid panel came back completely normal, in face more optimal than it's ever been - so I should not be feeling so sick. We did a trial of me going off all thyroid meds completely, which I have done since Tuesday - and I feel so much better! I feel almost normal now.

My ND thinks that I have an intolerance to thyroid medication right now, and that's why I feel progressively worse on it.

We are going to see what my lab values do and how I feel in a month or so with no meds, and go from there.

Thanks for your support!
