Hello, Im new and am hoping someone else out there has the same problem I am having so I dont feel like I'm going crazy. 5 months ago I was tested for thyroid trouble, found out I was hypo and started on 50mc of Levothyroxine, before getting tested I was having charlie horse muscle cramps under my ribs and in my back, just about make you pass out they hurt so bad and no way of turning or bending would get rid of it, just had to wait it out. I'm active and work 40 - 50 hours, not in the best of weight, to be honest I know I need to lose 50 pounds. Anyways, I started the medicine and was re tested 2 months later, my level has went up even more!! First test it was at 12 now Im at 39. The muscle cramps are now daily, multiple times a day and sometimes multiple muscle cramps at once. For instance tonight I had them on both sides under rib cage, one in my back and shortly afterwards in my calf muscle. I am depressed, and have cancelled dentist appts, and hair appts due to being so worried that I will have a cramp and look like a fool. My Dr said the cramps are due to the thyroid problem and said once we get this under control I will feel like a new woman!! He has doubled my Levothyroxine to 100mc and I get re tested in 2 months. I'm so tired all the time also, can't put enough lotion on to make my skin look decent either, but the main problem is the muscle cramps............. please is there anyone out there that has had this and please , please tell me they stopped!! I need to hear there is some hope and I've never been so out of it in my life.

I went through something similar about a year ago. I had muscle spasms just about everywhere with a host of other symptoms. I literally thought I was going to croke.

I thought I was going menopause but doc said no. My TSH was at 82 when I got my labs done back then. It was just awful! I feel your pain. I've been through several med changes since then and things are still not right.

I just posted my latest scenario on this thread https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=37&m=2957348

Keep your chin up!

It takes a while - at least six weeks - for a dosage change to show its full effect, so you'll need to be patient. In the meantime, be sure you're getting enough potassium in your diet - orange juice and bananas are two good sources. Sometimes that will help with muscle cramps also.

Let us know how you're doing.

Thank you to both who replied, I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel, this is just not living. Labs were done to check sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium, all were in the normal range.
