Hi All,

Newbie here and need some suggestions on Diet change :-)
(33 YO Female)

TSH: 7.41 (Standard Range: 0.34 - 4.82)
T3 Total: 107 (Standard Range: 87-167)

11/22/2013
T3 Total: 109 (Standard Range: 87-167)
Free T4: 1.22 (Standard Range:0.59 - 1.61)
*Doctor prescribed me 25 mcg Synthroid

1/28/2014
TSH: 5.93 (Standard Range: 0.34 - 4.82) **I ran out of med few days before blood test nono
THYROID PEROXIDASE AB (TPO): 59 (Standard Range: < 35 IU/ml)
*Doctor prescrived me 50 mcg synthroid

Symptoms(not sure whether they are related): 1 full blown hives and several minor hives, migraine before/after menstruation, stiff/achy neck and shoulder. I am not fatigue and I can never gain weight (5'5 with less than 110lb)

Since I am going to have Hashimoto for the rest of my life sad Aside from continue to take my synthroid medication, any suggestion on lifestyle change?

I read about gluten-free diet, taking Omega-3, eat regularly, sleep (I usually have less than 8 hours of sleep per night). I will appreciate your input if you have any diet or lifestyle change tips tongue

I am certainly no expert and new to the forum but I have hashimotos and have tried going gluten free for about three months before I fell off the 'wagon'. Best I have felt in a long, long time. And what was surprising to me was that it only took about a week of going gluten free for me to start feeling the benefits.

After the three months I traveled overseas and found it very hard to keep up with the gluten free so I sort of fell off the wagon. I immediately noticed a big difference in both my energy level as well as how effective my medication was. I started feeling back to square one like my thyroid medication was not working any more.

For some reason after returning home, I am not able to get back to 100% gluten free and my body is punishing me for it.

I have't started my gluten-free diet yet (only stop eating bread) shakehead
~~still looking for lists below~~

1) Gluten Free Soy Sauce
2) Gluten Free Oatmeal (I eat oatmeal everyday)
3) Gluten Free Noodle (I eat rice often...so i can skip noodle for now)
4) Any other things I need to be careful of?

Where do you shop for your gluten-free food? I live close to Traders Joe and Costco so I will start looking there scool

Hashimoto's for me too. I have gone gluten-free, lactose-free and coffee-free since last summer. Feel better, regardless of the disease. Watch for foods made from corn, however; mycotoxic (fungus laden) food. I try to stay away from it, even though it is GF. Try to eat whole, natural foods (eggs/fruits/vegetables/meat/poultry) most of the time. They are naturally GF :)

Costco has gluten free bread, pasta, flour, oatmeal(I think) and a ton of other gluten free items. At least where I live. Gluten free soy sauce... San- J. Gluten free noodles... Should be able to find them at any grocery store. Corn, quinoa, rice are the typical choices. Although I've found bean thread noodles at walmart and Kroger before. Yummy with stir fry!

Hi,

I was recently diagnosed with Hahsi's. I should have been tested years ago but wasn't. I had an ultrasound too which is fine. I'm beginning a book called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis by Izabella Wentz who is a ph.d pharmacist with the disease. Check it out - it may be of interest. She also recommends a gluten free diet. I guess H.T. is closely tied to celiac. She has other recommendations too. You can find a free chapter and other info if you google her. Hopefully it is okay to recommend a book or author on this board.

Hashi's is more than thyroid disfunction it's an autoimmune disease.

Mrs. Bunny - I think there are testing strips you can get for gluten. I would be careful with oats. I always hear there is a lot of cross contamination.

Keep in touch.
