I recently contracted C Diff from taking antibiotics back in February. I wasn't aware of this until April 1,2014. I took Flagyl for 14 days which I thought had gotten rid of it for good. But on June 4,2014 I tested positive for it again. I went back on a two week regime of the Flagyl. Four four days on this medication my symptoms subsided and I was taking a turn for the better. Until, the next day. I started experiencing excruciating head pressure, dizziness, extreme hair loss, etc. I stopped taking the Flagul thinking it was an allergic reaction and started on Vancomycin. After three days on the new meds the symptom s did not subside but became increasingly unbearable.

I went to the ER and all they could tell me was that I still had C Diff but that my body seemed to be attacking itself and they suspected an autoimmune disorder and sent me to be admitted. No one could tell me anything for more than 10 hours as I lay in the hospital bed, crying for someone to help me. Finally, a doctor told me that my C Diff was causing the autoimmune disorder and that treating the C Diff would make it go away. However in the ER the doctor told me C Diff was the least of my worries and that I needed to figure out what was causing the AI disorder. My new doctor said there was absolutely nothing wrong with me but the C Diff. I managed to get ahold of my medical records from my blood tests and found my TSH leaves to be +6.2. My cholesteral was also through the roif which made no sense since its impissibke to keep anything down with C Diff.

I found out Hypothyroidism runs in my family and I seemed to have all these symptoms and that it could even cause the intense pressure I was feeling in my head. When I mentioned this they refused to giveme something to lower my TSH levels because they claimed my high TSH levels were deemed irrelevant compared to my illness. The problem is I can't take my C Diff meds unless my TSH levels are controlled. It makes me feel like I'll die from the head pressure. I left the hospital when they refused to help me with my TSH levels and got into an Endocrinologist appointment just hours later. I was prescribed only 25 MCG for my thyroid problems.

Has anyone else acquired Thyroid problems from C Diff? I could really use some advice. I'm only 21 and just want this nightmare to end.

I'm unaware of any connection between c. diff and thyroid function. Your low starting dose is normal, the blood levels must be checked about every three months and medication adjusted as appropriate.

See the two sticky threads at the top of this forum for general information about thyroid disorders and helpful links.
