subclinical hyperthyroidism

Hi guys! Ive been recently diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism. I went to the hospital for fever and I had high blood pressure 145/91 and pulse rate of 110. I did ECG which showed I had sinus tachycardia 120S. My TFT results are as such TSH: 0.388, T4: 16.20 and it was noted at the end that my hr was still at 108. Should I be concerned with the figures and what could it be caused by? Have been referred to a endocrinologist. Im a 20 year old young man. Thanks!

Hi and welcome,

The low TSH means that you have hyperthyroidism, as to what causes it, there could be several reasons, you
should now be tested for Graves disease antibodies, these are TPOab and TGab and TSIab, if either is positive then you have an autoimmune disease.

You need also to have thyroid US to see if you have nodules.

Regarding the treatment, there are three options that your endo will choose from; antithyroid medications like Methimazsole, RAI, and surgery .

With a heart rate of 110, I wouldn't call it subclinical. You have elevated blood pressure and a racing heart; those are definitely symptoms of hyperthyroidism. "Subclinical" means without symptoms.

I'm glad you have been referred to an endocrinologist to help sort this out. I suspect you will be astonished at how much better you feel after successful treatment.
