Hi all.... I am a 36 year old male that has been recently diagnosed with hashimoto's and I am wondering what kinds of diets you all might be on. I have had GI issues every since I became hypo symptomatic about 2 years ago. I bounced around from doctor to doctor trying to figure out why I was having the problems I was having, until finally about a month ago, the thyroid, my genetic history, and ALL my symptoms just clicked. My dr. had somewhat overlooked my numbers because I'm skinny and still somewhat young. My GI problems were bad, and still are pretty bad, but a little better. I started out on 50mcg of synthroid, to 75mcg, and now 125mcg until next blood work. I know my diet needs to change, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what to eat and what not to. I have done a lot of reading and its hard to find definitive answers, obviously because a lot the stuff I've read says that it varies from person to person. I have eliminated some things that I know, like sweets, sugary foods, and very high gluten foods (really trying to go gluten free). Basically what I'm needing help with is, What diets are you all eating that helps? Or what foods to definitely avoid? Or any links to sites that give good lists for foods to eat and foods to avoid? Thanks so much for any help.

I'd suggest keeping a food diary. Simply take a notebook or make a log, write down everything you eat every day and note what symptoms you have on that day. This will help you identify the foods that actually bother you. There is no single diet that is recommended for thyroid problems.

I have read on a FB group- Hashimoto's 411 that the Autoimmune Paleo diet (AIP) has been very beneficial to many. Here is a little of what it entails: http://aiplifestyle.com/what-is-autoimmune-protocol-diet/

I also have hashi's and am GF and dairy-free. Seems to help me tremendously, and I'm still contemplating trying the AIP. Are you aso artificial-sugar free? What seems to be your worst symptoms? I could not take Synthroid. Gave me headaches and GI problems. Just made me feel worse. I think there is gluten in the fillers, for one. I now take levothyroxine.
