I'm going to see an Endocrinologist later this month. He's a doctor I saw many years ago and I want to re-establish a relationship with him.

I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism. For years (probably 8+) I have been on natural forms of thyroid medicine from Armour to meds compounded in the lab. These meds are not covered by insurance. I had tried the synthetic version for a few years and they didn't seem to work that's why I moved over to the natural form. Unfortunately, I still have hypo symptoms with those as well so I am considering going back to synthetic.

I am curious what current synthetic meds people are using with success today? I had a hard time with Levoxine (or whatever the Synthroid generic is) in the past so I won't want to be on that. With the way technology progresses, I figured this is probably some other options out there.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
If you live in the USA you can try Synthroid made by Abbvie, Pfizer also acquired Levoxyl and reformulated it, there is also a new drug called Tirosint, it is a gel capsule with very few inactive ingredients but it is very expensive .

What were your labs when on synthetic LT4 medications and while on NDT ?

I'm not sure what the synthetic numbers were at this point...it was several years ago. Here's my most recent NDT (not sure what LT4 is):

Thyroxine (T4) - 5.6...Range: 4.5-12.0 ug/dL
T4,Free(Direct) - 1.09 ...Range: 0.82-1.77 ng/dL

LT4 is Left-Thyroxine also called Thyroxine or Levothyroxine.

Was there a TSH test ?
