Hey all. I'm a veteran poster on the Ulcerative Colitis forum. I'm posting on here in search for answers for my dear wife.
My wife has had thryoid issues for about 7-8 years now. She is 26 years old.
She has been on a hunt to figure out why she's so tired now for the past couple years. Her thyroid #'s show that there shouldn't be any issue, but every day she hits a wall of fatigue and confusion around 6-8 hours after she gets up. As I've known her over the past 2.5 years she has only been getting worse. She's afraid to drive for fear she'll crash if the tiredness is bad on any certain day, and it also gets bad enough that our relationship suffers as I become more of a caretaker than a partner every evening.
We really don't know where to look for a good answer. She's been to an endocronologist, cardiologist, a couple internal medicine doctors, gynecologist, etc. Our next step is likely to stop her hormonal birth control pills and see if they have been contributing to the fatigue issues.
Where should I be looking for more answers for us? I have recently found a supremely good family practice doctor that is helping me through a difficult health challenge. We plan on getting my wife to see this lady soon. Besides that though, all I can think of is playing with nutritional things or sending her to Mayo.
I only am considering nutrition because she has an uncle with Celiac's disease. My wife has had that ruled out by both blood test and endoscopy, but I still wouldn't rule out a sensitivity. I've heard/read that a sensitivity to gluten could cause fatigue.
But... more and more I feel whatever is going on with her is hormonal. She is just different than normal women I'd been with before. She doesn't have a sex drive really. She has so low of testosterone that her doctor said it was the lowest they'd ever seen (it was 1, with zero T being 0). She doesn't show normal signs of arousal when we do get sexual (no wetness), and sex is painful for her without numbing medicine.
If any of you have some bit of knowledge that would help at all I would deeply appreciate hearing it.
Thanks so much.
