I went to see my doc yesterday with concerns about a hard 'marble-like' ball on the left side of my larynx/throat with feels hard as a stone noticed when I was shaving about 19 days ago. Glands under mandible, ear, and back of neck also enlarged (not sore or bothering me), really sore one above collar bone that feels like a bruise/sharp pain when I press on it, glands started swelling about 6 days ago. I didn't mention the following to him although I wish I had... I have a persistent headache behind eyes and forehead (morning to night - some nights my eyes turn red and water because of the discomfort) as I sit here typing this my head is throbbing.
I'm a 26 year old male from South Africa, weigh 72kgs, 180cm tall, perfectly healthy, drink loads of water, exercise regularly, never get sick and not one for getting headaches. So I'm obviously concerned about what's transpiring.
The other symptoms that I brought up with my doc is pain under my armpits (sometimes burns), chest aches when I breathe in deep, trouble swallowing, heart palpates every now and again (probably work related stress), throat area and sides goes a flushed patchy red and very warm to the touch (flares up on occasion).
Doc sent me for some bloods yesterday (I think they were T4, T1, TSH and one or two others) he called me this morning to say that the blood tests came back fine, no problems with thyroid etc. He says he thinks I could have a re-occurrence of glandular fever and that I must take the course of meds he prescribed to me yesterday. If there is no improvement in the next 10 days then he will schedule an ultrasound of my neck.
At my appointment yesterday he berated me about drinking coffee, eating acidic foods etc as I have a Hiatus Hernia (acid reflux could be causing this throat hassel) and also cautioned that I must not take any anti-inflamatories (stomach ulcer) and watch my diet (Colonoscopy December 2014 = IBS) stomach swollen, painful and nauseous. I'm 26 but feel like I'm going on 60 *ha ha*.
He asked about family history with health problems so the only people I could think of is my mom who had cancer in both breasts (double masectomy), grandfather lung cancer (died), gran cholesterol & heart attack (died). My cholesterol was sitting at 6 according to the blood test which wasn't too bad but could be much better.
So precaution is better than cure; is there any advice someone could give me or is able to relate to the above. I'm sure it's nothing hectic and a good break from work might do the trick but I just wanted to get alternative advice feedback without questioning my doctor's abilities/knowledge. He's VERY good.
P.S: probably unrelated (i didnt even bring it up in my appointment) in December last year when I went for a check up and was sent for endoscopy (hiatus hernia) he found that I had a prominent left sided unilateral gynecomastia after an ultrasound was done. Breastplate measuring 40mm in diameter and 12mm wide, uniform echo pattern and no focal lesion noted. Right breast plate completely normal with no steroid or drug use. In the past month my left chest gets a burning sensation under the nipple area (on rare occasion) and there are little hard balls up the side of the chest.
Thanks a mil for reading this long nerative lol, I hope someone can spread some light for me ☺
