I have recently increased my dosage of Synthroid from 25mcg to 50 mcg and I am noticing symptoms of hyperventilation, increased anxiety and now chest pains. Does anyone know if chest pains are a possible side effect of Synthroid? When I feel this way I usually have to take an anti anxiety medication Klonipin. I take it only as needed.

Hello and welcome to the forum ,
Chest pain, palpitations, arrhythmia, irregular heart rate, increased heart rate and skipping beats are all known symptoms of being hyper, in your case most likely due to over medication.
What was the reason for the increase? Do you have any thyroid related blood tests to share with us? specially TSH?

I have Hashimotos disease. I just resumed Synthroid treatment after previously being treated with Armour Thyroid. I resumed Synthroid medication at 25mcg which seems to be okay as far as side effects and such. But my endocrinologist says my dosage needs to be increased but when I increase the dosage is when I start feeling the anxiety and chest pains. I gradually increased my dosage from 25mcg to almost 50 mcg by cutting a 50mcg pill and taking about 3/4 of it but my body doesn't like it.

Hi,
First, I want to say that we are not doctors in this forum, only fellow patients who try to help others through our own personal experience.

It is not recommended to split synthroid pills even that they have a score, because of consistency issues.

Did your doctor tell you by how much to increase?

from 25 to 50 this is 175 mcg /week, which is much more than your TSH allow, you definitely need to increase your dose, but , only by 50 mcg per week ,aka , add 50 to one day so that you take 25 mcg for six days and then in the seventh take 75 !

Again this is according to my own personal experience with TSH, call your doctor and ask for his confirmation !

Best ,

My doctor advised me to start taking the 25 mcg for a couple of weeks and then go to the 50mcg. They did say it was okay to split the pill in half.

Then call him and tell him that you are over medicated , and that the increase of 25 mcg/day is too much an increase !
