I started getting palpitations in march, I've since been told they're benign and had an echocardiogram for a heart murmur, which is mitral valve prolapse. The last few days my palpitations have been quite a bit more frequent, and I know my TSH levels were a little high about 5 days ago. I can't get in to see my dr until Sept 9th, I was just curious if the hypothyroidism if I do have it, can make the palps worse in anyway?

I've also got anxiety, but have been taking my meds when needed if the palps drive me into a panic attack.

My grandmother, her sister, aunt, and cousin, all female, all on my mom's side have some form of thyroid disease.

Thank you.

Hypo as well as hyper can cause palpitation , but hyper affects the heart more badly .
Can you post your actual thyroid related blood tests with reference ranges? so that we can comment further .

I don't even know what the results were, I had the test done in the hospital and they didn't feel the need to tell me what it was and I wasn't even that worried about it, until all of this started.

You should always request a copy of any blood tests you perform, keep them and write on them what medications, dosage and how you felt as a record for you, these can become of a great value !

Yes, those records are very important to have. I've never thought to put that added information on them, so thanks for that advice.

You should be able to get your information from the hospital records dept.

I can go right on the hospital website and register and get all of my lab results, etc.

Well, this TSH is indicative of hypothyroidism, I am sure you feel bad.

As I said hypo can cause heart problems such as palpitations.

Have they started you on Levo? if yes, is it brand name or generic ? if not, then you need to ask to be referred to an endo, and insist on taking brand name Levo rather than generic, since this will keep your weekly dose consistent !

Also you need to be tested once for thyroid antibodies, those are TPOab and TGab , to see if the cause for you being hypo is hashimoto , an autoimmune thyroiditis.

Levo should be taken on an empty stomach, around the same time every day, one hour before breakfast for it to work .

Best ,

I can't get in to see my doctor until Sept 9th, so I'm on nothing.
