Hi everyone..31 year old female. Within the last year been diagnosed with Hashimoto/low thyroid. I am not currently on any medicine for it. Since I was about 24 I have sometimes woken up a pounding heart after a heavy night of drinking..usually then I would sip on water and slow breathe and within 30 minutes it was gone.
Now things are quite a bit different. Now I have a beer or two, and I feel 'drunk'. But not a good drunk..I just feel weird and very 'off', my face feels flushed, and overall it's just not a great feeling. The other night I went out and had probably 7 beers all night..but also drank 3 bottles of water in between. Woke up around 3am not to the typical pounding heart I always use to get..but just a racing heart. Before, I would feel the uncomfortable pounding sensation, this time I didn't actually feel it pounding in my chest, but felt my pulse and it was going very fast (I didn't count but probably 130 bmp) I had no other symptoms besides the fast heart (no fatigue, no dizziness, no shortness of breathe, no chest pain) just the fast heart which obviously made me panic. I took a xanax and drank a couple glasses of water and it did slow down quite a bit after a few minutes. But for the rest of the night every time I woke up my heart was still fairly fast (90 bmp or so) until I would slow breathe and it would slow down and i'd fall back to sleep..but then awake again within an hour with the same thing. This went until about 8am & it went to normal. Just curious if anyone else gets this? Not sure if it's contributed to my thyroid, dehydration, a heart defect? I've had the whole heart work-up within the last year and besides PVC's everything looked normal.
I've cut back on drinking A LOT and I just hate the thought of not being able to relax after work sometimes with my friends and have a few drinks without a hellish night to dread afterward. Any advice?
