I was diagnosed about a year ago with Hashimoto's disease. My lab values were as follows:
TSH 1.58 (0.30 - 3.00)
FT4 0.96 (0.78 - 2.19)
Thyroglobulin Abs 1.7 (0.0 - 0.9)
TPO 158 (0-34)
Because my TSH and FT4 were normal, my doctor put me on a low dose of synthroid (25mg). My TSH and FT4 have remained normal on that dose but I am still tired, have joint issues, depressed, weight gain. She has not repeated my TPO and other antibodies since the initial diagnosis.
I began have chest pain about a month ago and went to the ER. They saw enlarged (not alarmingly large but large none the less) lymph nodes in the mediastinum space of my lungs and did a biopsy and diagnosed me with Stage 1 sarcoidosis. Because both of these are auto-immune diseases, I would like to see if changing my diet would reverse the symptoms and possibly have at least the sarcoidosis go away on its own (I have currently opted to do this instead of starting steroids due to the side effects). My pulmonologist recommended this forum; has anyone had any luck with an auto-immune diet (ie. gluten free) and could you recommend a book for me to read. I am 29 years old and would like to take control of my health again. I would appreciate any feedback and comments. This is all new to me.
