I am currently on 2.5 grains of Armour after beginning at .5 grains last September and working up to this dose. My last labs were:
Free T3 = 5.61, Range (2.77-5.27)
Free T4 = 1.18, Range (0.71-1.85)

I still have low body temps, joint pains, bouts of depression & anxiety, and lack of libido, missing outer 1/3 of eyebrow and loss of leg hair, all of which were initial symptoms. Joint pain and fatigue have improved, but that is about all. My labs say not to go higher. Adrenals are okay according to 24 hour saliva test. Am I missing something? Should I try T3 only? My physician wants to stay at current dose and continue to monitor, but I am not so sure.

Other info: 41 year old male in great shape until symptoms came on suddenly a year ago after several stressful events.

Dear Norcross111,

Do you have a TSH test results? As you can see your Free T3 is above range, which means that you are over medicated.

Have you tried Levothyroxine before being on Armour ? It could be that you will do very good with Levothyroxine .

BTW, do you know whether you have Hashimoto's disease?

If I were you I would ask my Endo to change me to some brand name of Levo and to adjust your dose properly by monitoring the TSH.

Best of luck and wishes for good health,

My THS had been bordering between 1-1.5, then suddenly went to .01 with the last increase. Even with that, my physician recommended staying on this dosage for a while longer to see if my body adjusts. I will ask about the Levo. The Armour seems to give me a roller coaster of emotions throughout the day. Thank you.

Armour is made from powdered porcine thyroid glands and since the ratio of T3 to T4 in it is much higher than what humans need your FREE T3 will be very high in the range or higher than the upper limit of the reference range, this is what was prescribed before the synthesis of T4 in the laboratory.

Best,
