3 years ago during a routine blood test my TSH was virtually undetectable while my T3 and T4 were in the normal range. Strange thing is I had no symptoms. They tested me for Graves and it came back negative. They scanned me and found no hot spots. Diagnosed as subclinical hyperthyroidism. An endocrinologist put me on 10mg methimazole. After a couple months my TSH became detectable but far from the normal range. T3 and T4 still normal. After a couple more months TSH normalized. Haven't had a problem since, knock on wood.
The radiologist who examined my thyroid scan noted in my records that I had a CAT scan w/ contrast about 4 months before the blood test indicated the undetectable TSH. He said the contrast might have caused the problem but couldn't say definitively. He just told me in the event of a future CAT scan to let the medical staff know about the possible connection.
Sure glad the medication solved my problem.
Anybody else on the board had subclinical hyperthyroidism? Did it recur? How was it resolved?
