Hi everyone,
I’m currently hypothyroid and on 150 mg armour thyroid and 20 mcg liothyronine and am increasing the dose as days go by. I still have yet to get my energy up or feel better. I’m nervous there won’t be a dose high enough to bump my energy. I also have lyme/coinfections which is likely why I need a higher dose. But I was wondering if anyone else has not felt better unless on extremely high doses and if you ever got to a dose high enough to help you.

Dear Patient166,

It's not necessarily true that the higher the dose then the better that you feel, it is about getting your thyroid-pituitary-hypothalamus axes into balance, if that is achieved with low or high dose of thyroid hormones then it does not make a difference.

150 mg of Armour equivalent to 250 mcg T4 (Levothyroxine), and 20 mcg T3 equivalent to 60 mcg T4, in total you take 310 mcg T4 per day which is a huge amount, which I guess is the reason you feel bad because you are seemingly hypERthyroid.

First thing you need to do is to perform TSH blood test, and to make an appointment to an Endocrinologist doctor to adjust your dose properly based on blood tests!

Best,

TSH is not a cell consumable hormone, its a signal, which is why you also need free T3 and free t4 tested; the hormones your cells use.

Reverse T3 test would be good too. High reverse T3 can block the T3 cell receptors, which can result in "pooling" of t3 in your blood, making you look hyper, when in fact, your cells are hypo. In that case more T3 can unplug the receptors- natural path Drs will do this, Endos dont know this. Ive had this happen at times of high stress and illness, its real, but rare.

Even though the free t3/t4 tests are pretty good, they only show whats available for use. You can pile a kids plate with food, but that wont mean the kid will eat it.
