I thought i was on the right track.

After having a really bad lupus-like reaction from remicade, I sought a 2nd doctors opinion who i really liked. I started on 6mp 25mg for 2 weeks then 50mg for 2 weeks and began having a "hypersensitivity reaction" My doctor took me off it and i felt much better. He has sttarted me again on 25mg to try and work up again slowly...the goal is 100mg.

He said that if this doesnt work, my only options left are methotrexate or surgery....or of course continuing to flare and take prednisone multiple times per year (which he says i have been on for way too long)

I guess i got my hopes up and now I feel like im running out of options...anyone every had a hypersensitivity reaction and theh work through it?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I'd try Humira before deciding on surgery I guess, it that's an option for you. Do enemas not work?

The doctors did some sort of promeheous blood lab test and came to the conclusion that Humira would most likely get me very sick like the remicade.

I have never had ay success with rowasa or hydrocortisone enemas. I have recently been diagnosed with Chron's colitis maybe that is why???

Kristyn,

My GI told me that sometimes people have better reactions to imuran when they have a bad to 6-mp and vice versa.

There are clinical trials.

Have you tried other types of 5ASAs besides Asacol?

Cyclosporine and Prograf are treatment options and very effective ones at that but they are not maintenance drugs.... you will probably need methotrexate or Imuran as a maintanence drug if 6-mp doesn't work for you.

I see that you are in Boston, Mass General is one of the best GI hospitals in the country.

I was in the hospital in October and I met with a surgeon who does 1-step Laprosocpic J-pouches.... you have to be off of Prednisone for a while first or you would need a 2-step surgery.

Thank you.

I have not actually tried any other 5ASA's other than Asacol. I could look into that with my doctor. My new doctor is from the Chrons and Colitis Center @ Mass General hospital.

He said he will have me meet with a nutritionist and a surgeon jus to find out about my options.
