Ugh, it's been a rough night! I've been spoiled for quite a long time I admit, but for the last week or so, I've been having the sharp tummy pains. Yesterday I did something I really regret....I ate some chili (mild) with beans in it. Yes, I will say it was a silly thing to do since my gut has been acting up and yes, I deserve it...but it's been heck. I actually emailed my doc this morning because my gut has really been acting up. Not sure if it's reacting to not taking the Azthiriopine anymore, the antibiotics I was taking, or the extra yummy holiday calories I've been taking in -- or maybe the combination, but I can tell you I'm not in a good way! I have started eating foods that will be kind to my gut today, so I'm hoping that will calm it down. Thank heavens I don't live with anyone but my dog. Even she was scared of the gas coming out of me. :-) Anyway, thanks for letting me whine. Ahhhhh, needed that.

Oh no Carol! I hate you are feeling bad. I bet it is just a combo of everything. I wonder if it will take awhile for your body to adjust to going off the azathrioprine? How long were you on the antibiotics? Take it easy and keep us posted!!

Sorry you are feeling like crap.  And feel free to whine all you want.  That's why we are hear.

I must agree with Tabitha.  It sounds like a combo of everything.  Now that the holiday's are behind us, try to get back on track and avoid the things that bother your tummy.

Good luck!

tell me about it! I swear it's got to be the holiday overindulging... I too have had increased gas, increased bm's, & yes, there's blood! I just dropped down to 5mgs of pred about a week and a half ago, so maybe it's that. And I too ate my fair share of "bad" food over the holidays, plus drank my fair share of "bad" beer. But it tasted so good!!!! Sooo.... I'm hoping my symptoims settle down without getting worse- I've got a little over 2 weeks before my next Remicade infusion. I'm going to call my GI tomorrow & see if he can call in a scrip for some sort of suppository to tide me over. It better just be the holidays- have you all noticed how all of us in "remission" have been experiencing mini-flares & increased symptoms? ugh... I guess it's the gift that keeps on giving, huh? eyes

I really love chili, too, BUT-- I try my best to avoid even the mild mixtures because they generally have a whole lot of fiber, too much for people with sensitive guts. It's not only the beans & spices, there is likely to be pieces of green or red pepper, celery, &/or onion, besides, which creates more of a whammy for a UCer than beans alone. Hope you can get back on track soon with your regular, more cautious diet! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I know; I usually listen to my gut. I actually made it a couple of weeks ago and ate it at that time with no problems. It's a recipe that's not full of beans, and I had tucked some in the freezer so yesterday decided to take a little for lunch -- I did hesitate though knowing my gut wasn't in a good way...should have listened to my "gut" instinct! I've had no bleeding or d, just extreme urgency and cramping with short little bms coming out. Tab, I was on the antibiotics for a week; but it was the same week I was taken off the Az. I'm drinking some peppermin tea right now, hoping that will soothe the burn! Thanks all for your kindness!

Do you just hate that? Thinking OK! Now my life is getting better, my Uc is behaving and then bam - the Uc has to pop back up to remind us that is hasn't gone very far! Hopefully this is just a minor blip for you and you can get your body back to the way it was.

And peppermint tea is awesome! I drink alot of that because it also helps with my acid reflux as well as my gut.

I would bet money on the Antibiotics....when I stopped the 6-mp it took about 3 months before I saw symptoms.

How about some probiotics?

I hope you feel better soon.

Ah, yes, I have very cultured yogurt that I've been eating (especially knowing I was on antibiotics) and also DanActive. I might have to go for the big gun probiotics now! Thanks Sherry and Keith!

Hi Carol...I feel for you!!! Maybe the lactose in the yogurt will encourage gas as well..yogurt gives me the worst gas anytime.
I suggest you try probiotics (big-gun ones..hehe).

Did you have the remi on Dec 27?

I hope you improve soon.

No chili for a while...if the dog is scared, then it's definitely not good..lol!

This may not be good advice especially coming from me, but...

sometimes you just have to live life, it's so hard depriving yourself of foods that you so love and it's near impossible during the holidays. I too indulged in unwise forms of consumption and paid for it, but I have no regrets because it was just for that moment and it was during that moment that I truly felt alive and I enjoyed every morsel of my 'banned' food type. lol

Anyway, I'm in recovery mode as well...so I guess we're in the same boat; hope u feel better soon.

Carol, this may be a long shot but there is a brutal stomach bug out there. I just read an article about one in England that is sending about 100,000 people a week to the doctors. The symptoms sound exactly like we have experienced this week in our house. It may not be the same bug but I have been having bad stomach cramps for several days now. My kids and husband actually vomited but I just have the cramps. It's wicked though. Whatever your problem is I hope things turn around for you soon. But whine away!

Hey Loneylane!!! XOXO

Sorry to hear you are feeling "poopie"... I am to at the present time, hubby is getting over a bad stomach bug and like scrap girl said, I have the cramps and the general yucky feeling, but no throwing up THANK GOD.... I hope you feel better soon.... I think taking my Cultirelle has helped me in the severity of the illness going around my house, I definately think you should break out the "Big Guns" and go on a probiotic, if for nothing else, just to be on the safe side..

Let's try one of these days to do lunch again... (if the weather ever lets up).... LOL

Thanks, I'm finally feeling a bit better today; the cramping is gone, but still have the urgency. I hate that because you get on the pot and like a little thread comes out. Yuck, huh. Hey, where else can I go to explain something so gross and have everyone understand? Hee hee. Anyway, thanks to all of you for letting me whine, and I hope everyone is feeling better soon. At least I have a nice stormy day to stay inside and veg a little.

NO kidding Loneylane!!

I've been on my couch pretty much all day today with my blankie and my little dog.. I did have to go outside this morning for about an hour and clean my horse stalls in the barn and feed them all, WOW, the wind was amazing... I'm impressed that my horses can stay calm inside that barn with all the noise going on... It was even making ME a little nervous it was SO bad.. I did lose part of a 3 sided shelter I had outside for the horses and a BUNCH of oak tree limbs are on the ground here... Other than that I think, I haven't had too much damage from the winds, although I haven't been outside to have a good look at everything yet... Oh well, It is a great day to just stay inside and vegetate.... and until 4:30pm when I have to take care of the horses again, I'm doing just that!!!
