Hello I am going to the GI tommorrow.

My symptoms have not gotten better.

I am constantly having diarrea since my meds especially at night.

I am going over 10 times a night and all i have is watery stool.

My stomach cannot hold anything it feels like I am full and I feel like to throw up after a meal.

I don't think the colazone is working or predisone!

Should I ask him about some other medication?

I cannot sleep because I am constantly going!

Shouldn't the MEDS not make it worse? Since I had my colsonscopy (and it wasn't a full one cause I was so imflammed) my symtpoms have gotten worse.

I DON"T KNOW WHAT TO TELL HIM?

PLEASE.

I think everything you just typed is what you need to tell him!

Tell him exactly what you just told us. Write it all down if you have to. There are many other medicines out there that might help you. Be an active patient and tell him exactly how it is and ask him what his next step is for you to get you to feeling better (and not just upping your pred. dose).

ditto, tell your GI everything you said in your post. The doctor can't help you if you don't tell them everything that's happening. I second the writing it all down... (i've been known to forget things and remember it after i've gone home) You're right, the meds shouldn't make you feel worse, but sometimes they do. It can take awhile to find something that works with your system.

Print out your post and take it with you, hand it to the doctor. Be sure you take pencil and paper to take notes, and don't let the doctor leave until you understand what you've been told.

Why would you quit taking your medications? It's particularly unwise to stop prednisone cold turkey. Often it takes some experimentation to find the right meds and dosages that will bring you relief. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I'd recommend you try taking l-glutamine powder to help control your diarrhea.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999

Therapeutic dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and Mucosaheal.

You went cold turkey off Colazal? No tapering? It is definitely a bad idea and I believe a health risk to go off pred. cold turkey.

Hi feelfine,
Did you decide to come off all meds by yourself or did your GI told you too. If your GI told you then you must get him to explain his reasons for not considering tapering, it may be because you haven't been on it for long enough. For UC its very unusual to stop medication suddenly.
I hope you find your remission prescription quickly.

I went cold turkey off of Asacol b/c of kidney problems and that threw me into the worst flare I ever had. Pred did not help me much if at all.

Tell your GI everything and bring a notebook write down questions you want to ask and his answers. I now have a good history of all my doc appt's and I refer to it frequently.

Try some rectal meds, even though I don't think the pred helped me I think the hydrocortisone enema's did.

We are tapered off Prednisone and other steroids because they will cause our adrenal glands to stop producing certain hormones while we're taking the Pred. When we come off Pred, we have to taper so our bodies have a chance to recognize that the levels are low and start producing natural steroids again. It's very dangerous to suddenly stop taking Prednisone; it could make you very sick or could even kill you in extreme circumstances.

Please work with your doctor on a plan for reducing the Prednisone. Even if you're not doing what he recommended, he should work with you to safely stop the Pred.

I have only been on it for over 2 weeks.

I don't know what else to do I'm just seeing him next week and he says to try a specialist downtown

Should I jump this GI?

Hi feelfine,
I would recommend you moving to the specialist. Its very important that you have a GI that specialises in this condition and understands the potential treatments available to you. The treatment that works for one will not necessarily work for another for example immunosuppresents make me come out in rash. A specialist will be quick to identify what is correct treatment for you.
At the very least, speak to the specialist downtown and see how comfortable you feel about discussing your condition and fears.
If you have someone who can attend the session then take them with you. I took a friend with me once because i changed my GI and I was very nervous about dumping the old one.
When I first found out about my condition i was quite distressed and could not think straight, my friends and family helped me to take charge. Discovery of this forum was also a great contributor to me taking control of my illness.

Call the specialist now even if the office is closed.
Leave him a message and tell you you are in a massive flare
and he should see you ASAP. Then call back first thing in the morning.
